The Character Assassination story arc continues in Amazing Spider-Man #587, but it seems the only thing being assassinated is the quality of this book.
Story: This issue focuses on Peter’s arrest and being held in Ryker’s. Things are looking very bad for Spidey, but Matt Murdock makes an appearance to come to his aide.
The timeline this issue follows is very confusing and even makes a reference to a previous Spider-Man Extra issue. If you never read that one-shot you will be very confused because their is no mention of what issue is actually being referred to. Dialogue in Amazing Spider-Man #587 doesn’t help matters either. I found it clumsy and it did nothing to keep my attention.
Art: John Romita Jr. continues to be the redeeming feature of the Character Assassination story arc. His pencil work continues to be top notch, and I wouldn’t expect anything less of his talent. He also did the cover for this issue and it was definitely one of the best covers of the week.
Overall: Character Assassination had a lot of promise, but it continues to let me down. I thought this was going to be a great arc, but lackluster storytelling continues to make it mediocre at best. If you missed this arc, don’t worry because you aren’t missing much.
