Sweet Tooth #1 is a comic book that starts out in a blur and ends in a blur. Very little background is given about any of the characters or location, but mostly this actually just creates more interest and anticipation for future episodes. The most striking thing about the comic book is just how unique and different it is from every other comic book out there.
Story: The story is hard to understand at this point, because Jeff Lemire has given us no information on the characters, location, previous incidents, leaving most of that to our powers of inference. In the case of Sweet Tooth, this actually works in his favor and helps to increase the curiosity appeal of his series. Also, as much as we don’t know about the story, it can still safely be said that it has to be one of the most independently unique ones out in the comic world.
Art: Jeff Lemire is truly an amazing man, doing both the extraordinary writing for Sweet Tooth as well as the captivating and haunting artwork. The most striking thing about this handiwork is the style and tone of the art that really feeds into your emotions and makes you feel the story. The art also has a very independent feel about it and further increases the aspect of individuality for the book.
Overall: This comic book is hands down, one of the best I have ever laid eyes on. From the haunting artwork to the thrilling story that can snare us with almost no details, Sweet Tooth #1 surely marks the start of a remarkable and amazing series.
